Finished: Pastel Ripple

I hadn’t made a ripple blanket for ages so decided to give it a try. I had some muted pastel yarn hanging about which was perfect. Ripples are a tricky pattern to master, you really have to count your stitches at the end and beginning of the row or else you can easily start decreasing or increasing. There are heaps of different patterns online to choose from, and i find chart patterns the easiest to follow. I worked with a 5mm hook which gave the blanket an open and lace effect, it also made it super drapey.

Finished: Crochet Bunting

I love bunting! It’s super simple and quick to make and looks awesome. I found some thick cotton in my stash and decided to brighten up my carport. I used a simple triangle granny pattern from google and got to work. Cause the yarn was thick this worked up really fast. I made 10 triangles then joined then by making a chain of ten then slip stitching along the top of the triangles then another chain of 10. The bunting is semi undercover right now and appears to not be getting wet in the rain. I’m not too concerned if it goes yuck as it was just a fun little project.

Finished: Cat’s Blanket

My cat is a little thief. Every blanket I make she thinks is hers. I had a bag of mill ends from Spotlight and thought I’d make a corner to corner baby blanket to add to my Etsy store (which i desperately need to re open) So as i’m crocheting away cat comes over to investigate. I tell her to go away and she does. But next morning I find her sleeping on the blanket. She dragged it from the lounge to her sleeping space! It’s no good to sell now so I let her use it. However, it’s not finished! She won’t let me finish it! Finally I manage to distract her and finish it off for her. She loves it. It’s really thick so maybe it’s the texture, anyway it’s very well used. Over the weekend I managed to steal it back so I could wash it cause it stunk! It took two days of soaking and drying for it to be useable now. This cat better not steal another blanket.

Yarn Store Review: Jenning Street Yarns | Forth Worth Texas

We found ourselves in Fort Worth Texas and had a few spare hours before dinner. Luckily for the internet and Uber, otherwise we wouldn’t have discovered Jenning Street Yarns. This super sweet store was only about 10 minutes drive from our hotel! I found so many lovely unique yarns here (maybe have gone a little crazy). All the staff were lovely and I even got to meet the owner! I love how warm and friendly the people of Texas are! My sister loved this store as they had a comfy chair for her to wait in. I tried to get local yarns at each of the stores I visited at, and was so happy with my Texan stitch holder! I wish this store was local to me!

Check them out if you’re in the area!

rainbow star blankets

I decided to whip up a couple of baby blankets just to have on stand by. Does anyone else get slightly mad when their partner or family member just casually decides to tell you they need a baby blanket for their work friend? Happened so much last year, I’m prepared this time. These blankets will look familiar to a few if you’ve followed me fr a while now. Just the 12 point ripple pattern by the crochet crowd and my favourite yarn from Woolly and Warm. I made these a lot smaller than the original as they are meant for babies or young children who don’t need such a bulky blanket.
Love how these turn out and will try to make a few more to stock my Etsy store which i have been neglecting.

In Progress: Rainbow Hexagon Blanket

I’m trying to now buy anymore yarn for a while and use up what i have. I have a lot. Like too much. So I’m trying all sorts of stash busting patterns. I made a hexagon blanket a few months back and loved the result so i thought i’d give it another go. I decided to make rainbow centres and do the final round in white to make the rainbow colours shine. Continue reading In Progress: Rainbow Hexagon Blanket

Yarn Store Review: Lion Brand studio | New York

We found ourselves right near Lion Brand Studio on day in New York and had to go have a look. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it was different to how I imagined. The space was really inviting and super colourful with lots of choices. I really loved the hand dyed cottons and wool that are made in small batches by Darrin. I didn’t realise until we left that he was there! I grabbed a bunch of these yarns and ran away before I could spend anymore money. I wish we were in New York longer so I could have done a class or two. That is something we are really lacking in Australia. Every store seemed to run classes or a social event which would be a great way to meet fellow crocheters. If you are in New York I highly recommend paying this store a visit. We walked from the High Line and the surrounding neighbourhood is so pretty.

Blue Cape Thing

I had this amazing blue yarn sitting in my pile that was calling out for something unique. I found this awesome pattern on google and had to try it. It was for a large cape style shawl, but i figured i’d just keep going until i ran out of yarn. I love love love diagram patterns, my brain simply cannot read written patterns, so this was perfect.
This took a couple of days to make and was a simple pattern after the initial rows. I guess this is a caplet of something, either way it’s so unique and lovely. I added some strings to keep it on my shoulders. I cannot wait for winter, mainly because it’s 38 Celsius right now, but also so i can wear this. Sadly it doesn’t get that cold where i live that we need wraps, scarfs, and ponchos, it’s all mainly for decoration.

Finished: Purple Shawl

Finally I made something with this yarn! I bought it months ago when we went to the yarn festival up at the Sunshine Coast from a local indie dyer. I loved how the solid purple matched perfectly with the variegated purples. I searched for a great pattern that would allow me to show off the wonderful colours and settled on this one. I’ve used the pattern a lot and love it. It’s so simple and effective.  I Continue reading Finished: Purple Shawl

Finished: Orange Triangle Shawl

Finally got into my American wool! I found this awesome yarn at Knitty City in New York and loved the colours! Usually I’m not a fan of yellows or oranges but this was so nice I couldn’t leave it. I decided on a simple triangle pattern to really show off the colour changes. I’ve used this pattern before and love how quickly and simply it works up. After only a couple of days it was done! Now I only have to weave in the ends! Fhew! This shawl is sure to add a pop of colour to a drab winter (if only we were going into winter, not summer!)
