Finished: Birds of Paradise Scarf

Another one of my American projects done! I think I picked up this yarn in Fort Worth, Texas and immediately loved the colours. It has some slight colour pooling happening which seems to be all the rage in the crochet community right now. I used a simple v stitch to make this scarf and slip stitched the final row into the first row to make this into an infinity scarf. The wool is lovely and thick and drapes Continue reading Finished: Birds of Paradise Scarf

Finished: Red Call the midwife blanket

When you think of baby blankets you usually think of pale pink, blue, or yellow. I’m a fan of the more non-traditional look so have decided to make some baby sized blanket in red, green, and bright blue. This pattern is super simple after the first few rows and works up quick. I found the yarn at my local craft store and used roughly 2.5 balls. This makes a stroller sized blanket but you can adapt the pattern to make it larger. I did a simple border to finish it off.

Knitfest 2016

We made the 2.5 hour drive up to Maleny this weekend. It’s in the lovely Sunshine Coast hinterland and we could not have asked for a better day! Last weekend it was flooding! This was the first year the festival was held and hopefully won’t be the last. The town of Maleny is only quite small but the main street was covered in crochet bunting and decorations. I grabbed some wool from the trade stalls they had set up as well! They had classes and talks but decided to skip those in favour of walking about and admiring the displays. There were three cute alpacas and heaps of fleece for sale!
Hopefully it is bigger and better next year!

I had a bunch of cotton that I got on a ridiculous sale and decide to make another table centerpiece. Pintrest gave me this pattern that looked really easy and seed a cool shape. Let me tell you, it was boring. 20 something rounds all so so similar. Eventually i ran out of cotton so just ended the doily then and there. The effect is lovely and it sits really well on a table, not so much flat. I would never attempt this sort of pattern again as it just isn’t for me.

I found this awesome cotton at Spotlight and had to get it! After spending hours and hours on Pintrest I came back to my new favourite pineapple pattern. It’s super easy to follow and not at all boring. I used a 3.5mm hook and this took just under 2 balls of cotton. This took me about 10 hours to make, while watching Orange is the New Black, so there was times a lot of non-crochet time.

This is more a centre piece size and would look amazing in a tropical themed house. I’m now searching for a pattern to make smaller coasters to match.

I’m in love with the Call the Midwife blanket. Obsessed. It’s the sweetest baby blanket and lends itself well to all sorts of colours and yarns. This pattern is relatively easy to do and after a few rows it just repeats. Ideal for those Netflix and Crochet marathons. I found a bunch of soft yarn at my local craft store and practically brought all the colours. Over the next few months I’ll be making a bunch of these blankets to sell on Etsy.

The first one finished is the pink one. Love this so much. This is prefect for a stroller sized blanket and is soft and feminine.

I’ve been a fan of the pineapple doily forever! Often I find them at op shops and snap them up. I found this mustard yellow cotton at the local craft store on an excellent sale so i grabbed a couple of balls and ran home. I can’t read written patterns too well, so found a diagram pattern. These are so simple for me to read and understand. I used a 3.5mm hook and got to work. This worked up fairly fast and took about 7 hours. It ended up larger than i thought so is more of a centrepiece than a small doily. I love how this looks and the pattern is really easy to understand.

Doily Loves

After finding (and buying) some amazing doilies at the second hand store I decided to make my own. I’m not too good with written patterns so i decided to try my hand at reading crochet diagrams. What a difference! They are so easy for me to understand! I am a visual learner so knowing how the thing is meant to go together is a great help. There are heaps of free patterns on the internet for all skills!

The good thing is they only take a couple of rounds, the longest took 45 minutes. So these are great to make when you don’t have a lot of time.

I made these using Drops cotton and a 3.5mm hook.

Finished: Best Blanket Ever

img_1611

I started this blanket months ago and sort of lost track of it. I then started a corner to corner in the same yarn to see which looked better, they both did! After weeks of trying to figure out which one to undo I decided to just buy more yarn and finish both. Naturally there wasn’t enough yarn at the store! After visiting two different stores I figured the other colours were similar enough to pass off. So I grabbed two balls of two colours and got to work.

I love how easy this pattern is. The first few rounds are a bit tricky cause you’ve got to count and swap which yarn you are working on, but after that it’s awesome!

The blanket turned out giant! I love all the different colours and you can’t even tell there are three different colour versions of the yarn used! All up this took 8 balls of wool.
