I’m still in the process of finishing this awesome blanket. I started this several months ago but as it got hotter it became unbearable to work with the 100% wool. I hand dyed the wool using my food colouring technique to create 20 balls of uniquely coloured wool. The spiral Continue reading In Progress: Mosaic Circle Blue→
I recently found this amazing ceramic designer who makes these yarn bowls! I’ve been searching for a ceramic bowl like this for quite some time, but all I could find was international sellers and it was too risky to post. Luckily there was a stall at the local Australia Day celebrations which featured the local pottery club (http://www.goldcoastpotters.com/)
I couldn’t decide between the blue one and the sheep one, so i got both! It’s always nice to support local businesses, especially those who hand made items. Details for the amazing lady that made the bowl are below, she is located on the Gold Coast, Australia.
Yarn Glorious Yarn is a small independent yarn store located at Taringa in Brisbane. This store is just over an hours drive away but totally worth it. It’s just down the road from the gorgeous Mt Cootha Lookout which captures a great view of the entire Brisbane area. The store is small but very bright and full of gorgeous yarns, books, and accessories. While I was there a group of crafters were all sitting around knitting, crocheting, and talking, I wish this place was closer!
I’d decided to make some blankets to sell at the local craft markets. There isn’t many people selling crochet items here, probably because it’s somewhat tropical. However, the baby blankets i’ve made as gifts have been well received, so I thought I’d give it a go! Continue reading Finished: Baby Blanket→
Living in a tropical location is awesome, but one of the downsides is the lack of yarn shops. We have two craft stores but not much in terms of specialty shops. I was in Sydney over the weekend for the NRL grand final and came across Morris and Sons. It’s right in the Continue reading Yarn Shop Love: Morris and Sons→
Use these colours for a retro spin on the popular rainbow combination. These warm colours are modern, funky, and are suitable for a range of projects. Use the cream or brown as an accent on the border to make the colours pop! I’m going to turn this combination into a v stitch blanket!
Using colour in creative ways can bring your work to life!
I am loving this combination right now! Greens and purples look great together, and adding the pink and parchment give the combination a boost and create depth. This versatile combination would be great for blankets, scarfs, hats, and bags for any age group. Could you imagine a baby wrapped in these gorgeous colours!
My sister found this wool in the local yarn store and immediately loved it. As we are planning a trip to Alaska and the Canadian Rockies next year I decided to make her a scarf/wrap out of it. I hadn’t had to make something like this before so was sceptical about my skills. Surprisingly, this worked up in about 4 hours! The pattern was found after googling around for easy patterns. You must block your work if you use this pattern. The whole thing came alive and is even more gorgeous. This is the perfect size as a shawlette or scarf and is super warm!
I made this blanket after dreaming of this yarn for ages! I’ve always gone to buy the rainbow set but one colour or more has always been unavailable. Fortunately the planets aligned and I was able to get the entire set! The blanket took no time to make and the Ice Yarn is amazing to work with. I stuck with the traditional rainbow of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet. The blanket turned out quite large and very warm. I cannot wait to make a similar one using the Ice Yarns.
The thing that I love most about Stylecraft Special DK is the range of colour! So many awesome shades are available to satisfy every wolly idea. The yarn is super soft and very easy to work with. I have used about 15 balls of wool so far and have yet to come across any of those nasty joins you sometimes find.
This yarn is perfect for blankets, cushions, toys, and just about everything you can imagine. The price is super reasonable and it is a must for any crocheter!
