Finally I made something with this yarn! I bought it months ago when we went to the yarn festival up at the Sunshine Coast from a local indie dyer. I loved how the solid purple matched perfectly with the variegated purples. I searched for a great pattern that would allow me to show off the wonderful colours and settled on this one. I’ve used the pattern a lot and love it. It’s so simple and effective. I Continue reading Finished: Purple Shawl
Finished: Orange Triangle Shawl
Finally got into my American wool! I found this awesome yarn at Knitty City in New York and loved the colours! Usually I’m not a fan of yellows or oranges but this was so nice I couldn’t leave it. I decided on a simple triangle pattern to really show off the colour changes. I’ve used this pattern before and love how quickly and simply it works up. After only a couple of days it was done! Now I only have to weave in the ends! Fhew! This shawl is sure to add a pop of colour to a drab winter (if only we were going into winter, not summer!)

Projects
It’s been a busy few weeks! I’ve gone through my entire stash and found HEAPS of yarn and projects I had forgotten about. I am on a total yarn ban until I use at least half of my stash. At this rate I should be ready to buy more wool in about 19 years. I’m going to undo a bunch of half finished projects as I’m just not feeling them anymore or had better ideas for the yarn.
I’m in the process of turning our study into a crochet cave so at least I can see what I have to work with. I’ve managed to finish a call the midwife blanket that I had sitting around for months which allowed me to start a stash busting blanket. I had a bunch of half used Stylecraft Special DK sitting here taking up space so I’m turning that into a giant blanket. I’m almost done with it now and thankfully used a lot of the yarn up! Just a simple granny square blanket but in very random colours.
I started another scarf with some of my souvenir wool with is fun!
Finished: Birds of Paradise Scarf
Another one of my American projects done! I think I picked up this yarn in Fort Worth, Texas and immediately loved the colours. It has some slight colour pooling happening which seems to be all the rage in the crochet community right now. I used a simple v stitch to make this scarf and slip stitched the final row into the first row to make this into an infinity scarf. The wool is lovely and thick and drapes Continue reading Finished: Birds of Paradise Scarf
Finished: Rainbow Scarf
I started this scarf way back in July just before my USA trip. I brought it with me with the idea i would work on it on the various planes, buses, and trains we would take. I did manage to get a few rows out of it but it remained mainly untouched. Now after weeks and weeks of forgetting about it and working on other things, I’ve Continue reading Finished: Rainbow Scarf
Yarn Store Review: The Quarter Stitch | New Orleans
New Orleans is crazy, like Las Vegas’ older sibling. So good! We wandered the streets of the French Quarter one morning and came across The Quarter Stitch. By came across I mean I studied the address and pretended to come across a yarn store by accident, funny how that happened! What a store! Half yarn, half cross stitch, 100% amazing. So many things to look at and touch. They had a lot of nice yarns, too much. Some high end stuff as well which was nice Continue reading Yarn Store Review: The Quarter Stitch | New Orleans
Yarn Store Review: Knitty City | New York
I was following Knitty City on Instagram for a few months before my trip and with every post I was getting more and more excited to visit. So many colours! We set out on an epic walk that took us from Herald Square, through the nightmare of Times Square, visited the top of the rock, a confusing walk through Central Park, a flea market, and finally we got to Knitty City. I could have lived in this store. It was so so bright and friendly. Even the other customers were Continue reading Yarn Store Review: Knitty City | New York
Finished: Granny stripe Infinity Scarf
Finally this scarf is done! I started this the night before I left for America only 6 weeks ago. This scarf was worked on on various planes, coaches, and trains across the USA. This was a great project to work on as it was only one ball of yarn and a really simple repeat pattern. I made this into an infinity scarf buy slip stitching the last round into the first round. Continue reading Finished: Granny stripe Infinity Scarf
Back from holidays!

So in July and August I traveled to the USA with my sister. We started in LA and traveled trough Vegas, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Memphis, Louisiana, New York, and Washington DC. It was an epic month long holiday filled with a lot of sun, new experiences, food, and most important of all, crochet! I managed to visit a whole bunch of stores and stocked up on some delicious yarn. Once the jet lag has worn off I’ll be blogging about the stores I visited in case you would like to do a USA yarn tour.
Finished: Red Call the midwife blanket
When you think of baby blankets you usually think of pale pink, blue, or yellow. I’m a fan of the more non-traditional look so have decided to make some baby sized blanket in red, green, and bright blue. This pattern is super simple after the first few rows and works up quick. I found the yarn at my local craft store and used roughly 2.5 balls. This makes a stroller sized blanket but you can adapt the pattern to make it larger. I did a simple border to finish it off.
